Self-myofascial rolling is a flexibility technique that targets the neural and fascial systems within the body. By applying controlled pressure to areas of adhesion, commonly known as knots, the elastic muscle fibers undergo a realignment from a bundled position to a straighter alignment with the muscle or fascia's direction. The gentle pressure exerted by the Body Lever stimulates the Golgi tendon organ (GTO), inducing autogenic inhibition. This process reduces muscle spindle excitation and alleviates tension in the underlying musculature. Essentially, the Body Lever's gentle pressure, akin to a massage, aids in releasing unwanted muscular tension. The use of the Body Lever targets both the nervous system and fascial system, potentially eliciting a mechanical and neurophysiological response. This response can influence tissue relaxation and pain in the local and surrounding areas by activating sensory pathways of the central nervous system (Grabow et al., 2018; Young et al., 2018).

When using the Body Lever, its direct pressure on the muscles may promote relaxation of the local myofascia by increasing blood flow and reducing myofascial restrictions and adhesions (Jay et al., 2014; Kelly & Beardsley, 2016). Additionally, the Body Lever's compression may affect tissue relaxation and pain in the local and surrounding areas by stimulating mechanoreceptors and pain receptors. These receptors send signals to the central nervous system, triggering responses that promote tissue relaxation and block pain signals (Aboodarda et al., 2015; Young et al., 2018).

THATS A LOT OF LEVERAGE

When using the Body Lever, it's important to identify tender spots and maintain pressure on them for at least 30 seconds to enhance the relaxation response. Depending on the individual's ability to consciously relax, it may take longer to achieve optimal results. Incorporating self-myofascial rolling with the Body Lever before stretching may enhance the effectiveness of static stretching techniques. Furthermore, the Body Lever can be utilized during the cool-down process to promote muscle relaxation and recovery.
